Dubrovnik was one of my highlights of the trip: a beautiful
city, great weather and an unforgettable night out.
We did most of our sightseeing on the day we arrived – we
saw the harbour…
…Onofrio’s Fountain…
And this bloody gorgeous church among other things.
During our only full day in Dubrovnik we went on a little
boat cruise to a few islands just off the coast. It was advertised as having
unlimited wine, which it did. The only problem was that it was served out of a
10 litre container which was probably originally used to store paint thinner
(it certainly tasted that way anyway).
We all got a bit adventurous with our food that night with
seafood platters. I’d never eaten anything with the eyes still attached before
so I thought it was a bit deal. That was until I saw one of our fellow
travellers, Pete from Singapore, literally destroy a fish (including all the
meat around the skull) using nothing but a dessert spoon.
We went out big that night. There were over 30 of us so we
basically took over any bar we went in and danced incredibly poorly to the distain
of the locals. We ended up at a beachfront club which had double beds on the
sand and managed to break one by fitting ten of us on it - we were promptly
banned from using them. A few of our group took this as a queue to go skinny
dipping, but I decided not to (I didn’t want to make anyone else feel
inadequate, obviously).
The night ended
throwing stones into the water on a beach near our campsite in almost complete
darkness – the moment that made Dubrovnik special.
